IWC’s Big Pilot’s Watch Edition Muhammad Ali - A Tribute to the Legend and to Charity

Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen produced a unique timepiece Big Pilot's watch "Muhammad Ali" to honor the legend and to support the charity at the star studded gala event Celebrity Fight Night. The event was organized to raise funds for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center. The 18th Celebrity Night Fight witnessed friends of former heavyweight champion from show business to demonstrate their support for charity.
Celebrity Fight Night is one of the elite charity events. The audience comprises of celebrities and professional athletes from all over the country participating in live auctions and enjoying musical performances by many of the renowned stars. Soul legend Lionel Richie, actor and comedian Billy Crystal, five-time heavyweight world champion Evander Holyfield, and many other famous celebrities from the world of showbiz supported the gala. Oscar winner and Hollywood actress Halle Berry and tenor Andrea Bocelli offered a dinner in their company to the winning bidder. Over the years, the event has been highly successful and has contributed over USD 70,000,000 for good causes. Several charitable organizations have been benefited from the generosity of the participants and in numerous lives have been changed because of the support.
IWC honored the legend with the special edition as a tribute to Muhammad Ali's achievements, not only in sports but also for social responsibilities. The dial style of Muhammad Ali's edition is noteworthy as it resembles the historic Pilot's Watch of 1940. The red reflected within the black alligator animal skin strap, hour makers (colored SuperLumiNova) resembles the favorite color of Muhammad Ali, who wore red boxing gloves during all his fights. IWC CEO Georges Kern said "The man is an icon: simply one of the world’s greatest sporting personalities of our time,” "That was the reason we decided to mark Muhammad Ali’s 70th birthday in January with a special watch in white gold in honor of the man who was once voted Sportsman of the Century.” The winning bidder also received a copy of the tribute book, GOAT — Greatest of All Time, a massive 20″ x 20″ weighing 75 pounds, that portraits Muhammad Ali’s career, achievements and life beautifully made by more than 150 photographers and illustrators, comprising more than 3,000 pictures.
The Big Pilot's 51111 caliber is the largest automatic movement ever manufactured by IWC. The watch comes in 18 carat white gold case, matte-black dial and a folding clasp in white gold. The coated glass is sapphire, convex and anti reflective. The diameter and height are 46 mm and 16 mm respectively. The automatic pellaton winding system builds up a power reserve of 168 hours.
The back of the watch which is made up of white gold has a special back engraved signature of Muhammad Ali and an inscription reading "Edition Muhammad Ali, ONE OUT OF ONE.”
This unique edition is limited to 250 pieces and is water resistant up to 6 bars. This unique timepiece is priced at a gracious USD 60,000.
