Richard Mille – Official Partner and Timekeeper of the Spa Classic 2013

The SPA Classic has been held twice already, but with its eminent success it will take place again this year from May 24th through to the 26th. For the very first time, watch making tycoon Richard Mille will play host and timekeeper to this lavish congregation of sportsmen.
The event which takes place in Belgium at the prestigious Spa-Francorchamps circuit is proclaimed to be one of the most beautiful circuits in the world. The Spa-Classic, now positioned as the Belgian classic car event, is one of the major appointments for all motor racing disciplines.
The track was designed in 1921 with an aim to ensure speed and agility are tested to its fullest. Although there have been constant modifications with time perfecting cuts and corners. Specifically speaking the duration and distance of the event has decreased from an 8.8 miles to a mere 4.3 miles including 15 corners. Top speeds reach a racing 190 mph at the famous Raidillon- Eau Rouge.
There are a vary of categories to the event such as the group C, the Sixtie's Endurance, the Trofeo Nastro Rosso, the Spa- Classic jubilee and the Historic Formula 2 championship
In addition, there will be a major new event at the Spa-Classic - the Bonhams’ auction!. Bonhams is one of the oldest auction companies specializing in art and antiquities. The classic cars trend has lead this reputed firm, well-known to collectors worldwide, to look into this market. Taking advantage of the Spa-Classic’s reputation and of the geographical situation of the Ardennes circuit, on Saturday May 25th, Bonhams will organize an auction of fifty or so models during the event’s third edition. The different clubs and their members are again expected to turn up in large numbers to provide a unique on the spot exhibition of more than 1000 collection cars.
Richard Mille will commemorate the occasion by releasing a RM 011 Spa Classic, an exclusive limited edition timepiece of 50 pieces. The awesome automatic caliber is equipped with a flyback chronograph with countdown timer, an annual calendar and a variable rotor which is Richard Mills in-house rotor technology. The colors of the event are featured on the blue carbon fiber upper flange and the red and white lower flange. The Spa Classic logo at 12 o’clock, together with the red and white chronograph dials, contrast with the skeleton movement in PVD-treated grade 5 titanium.
For this special edition, the entire case has been microblasted, the case-middle columns polished, and the pusher covers are treated with DLC. After Le Mans, Imola and Pau, the legendary Spa-Francorchamps is the latest track to fly the Richard Mille colours for this unmissable motorsports event.
Moreover, the selective timepiece accompanies rather enticing specialized specifications – 60-minute countdown timer, 12-hour totalizer, the caliber RMAC1, movement with 62 jewels, frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and the Glucydur balance wheel with 4 arms and lever angle of 53 degrees. The watch dimensions are 50 mm x 40 mm x 16.15 mm. No word on the cost, although one can expect a generous price tag, which is typical of all Richard Mille timepieces.
