A
special, limited-edition model of its Sea Hawk Pro was launched by
Swiss watchmaker Girard-Perregaux. The launch event was hosted by
environmental conservationists Susan and David Rockefeller, Jr.
Along
with the release of the watch the event also showcased the screening
of Mission
of Mermaids,which is Susan
Rockefeller’s new documentary about protecting the oceans. In
celebration of World Oceans Day, the event was emceed by Italian
actress Jo Champa, and also included a Q&A session with the
Rockefellers. Susan Rockefeller revealed that much of the project,
which she made to support the work of Oceana, a global nonprofit
group dedicated to ocean protection.

Sofisti, CEO of the Sowind Group (which owns Girard-Perregaux and
JeanRichard) presented both Susan and David Rockefeller with the new
limited-edition "Big Blue” timepiece,
The
Sea Hawk Pro 1000m "Big Blue” edition contains an
automatic manufacture movement
with a power-reserve indication and a power reserver of 46 hours. It
is represented with a subdial above the 6 o’clock position with a
map of the world to represent the Oceans of the world. The date is in
a window at 1 o’clock, with a unidirectional bezel for setting dive
times and a helium release valve for decompression, the steel case
has a screw-down crown and caseback which is engraved
with the motto, "Protect What is Precious”. The motto is inline
with theme of the evening whihc is ocean conservation and to
Girard-Perregaux’s dedication to preserving classical watchmaking. The watch is
water-resistant to 1,000 meters with the GP033RO movement, it has 27
jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vph. The rubber strap is the same color
as of the dial. This being a limited edition watch only 15 pieces
will be made with each priced at $10,900, part of the sales proceeds
will be contributed to the Rockefellers’ ocean conservation
efforts.
