F.P.Journe races through Indianapolis 500 with Lotus and F1 Legend Jean Alesi
By Romit Jethwaney & Arjun Sekhri — February 06, 2013
F.P.Journe has launched its first collection of ultra light weight
state-of-the-art mechanical sports wristwatches. The collection features an all
new aluminium alloy case, bracelet and movement.
The partnership between watchmaker F.P.Journe and Lotus aims
to promote the launch of the F.P.Journe LineSport in order to merge the shared
values of the two companies: Innovation, Precision, craftsmanship, performance,
exclusivity and lightness. This also brings into light the long term friendship
between the former’s owner Francois Paul Journe and Jean Alesi.
Formula One legend, Jean Alesi wore the Centigraphe Sport on
his wrist as he took on the wheel for the Indianapolis 500 race. When Lotus won
the 1965 Indy 500, it was the first time a mid-engine car had set a winning
trend copied by every other constructor ever since. F.P.Journe is bound to set the same trend
with its production of the first all-aluminium wristwatch.
The Indy 500 has been held at the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway on the Memorial Day weekend every year since 1911. It is the fastest
motor race in the world, with cars reaching speeds of 400 km/hr – also known to
be the benchmark for American auto-racing, due to its exceptional 500-mile
length, the nature of the 2.5 mile track and the volume of audience standing
and watching at home.
The chronograph is manually wound by its 1506 Caliber
movement and is started, stopped and zeroed by an ergonomic designed rocker at
2 o’clock in the case band, instead of the usual buttons on either side of the
crown. Available both with automatic and manual winding, the 42mm lightweight LineSport
is keeping in alignment with the philosophy and engineering of motor racing.
The price range of this Linesport / Octasport collection is between USD 25,000 - 30,000.
