A repeater is a complication in a mechanical watch or clock that audibly chimes the hours and often minutes at the press of a button. There are many types of repeater, from the simple repeater which merely strikes the number of hours, to the minute repeater which chimes the time down to the minute, using separate tones for hours, quarter hours, and minutes. They originated before widespread artificial illumination, to allow the time to be determined in the dark, and were also used by the visually impaired. Now they are mostly valued as expensive novelties by watch and clock enthusiasts. Most watchmakers consider minute repeaters as the ultimate single complication in watchmaking. Everything must be absolutely perfect to deliver the precise striking of the gong and an immaculate sound.
Here is the list of our top 15 Minute Repeaters - Part 2

It will be serially produced although you can easily imagine that the production will be quite limited as the level of complication of this watch is very high. The 5207 Grand Complication features the base movement from the firm’s 3939 minute repeater/tourbillon, but the perpetual-calendar module is a completely new development that makes two improvements to the complication. The month, day, date, and leap year are shown in apertures rather than in the confusing array of sub dials common to many models. And unlike conventional indicators that can take hours to register a new date, these change instantaneously at midnight. True to longstanding tradition, the somewhat minimal exterior belies the sophistication and rarity of the movement inside. This 38 mm timepiece is embedded in white gold and protected with a sapphire crystal case back.

Corum Admiral's Cup Tourbillon Minute Repeater
Corum’s heritage is that of a watch maker with a maritime tradition. And the all new limited edition Admiral’s Cup 45 Minute Repeater Tourbillon is a grand celebration of that history and draws much of its inspiration and function from the history of seafarers. Minute repeaters are not often found on watches meant for the sea, but Corum added it as a way to celebrate maritime history. Traditionally life aboard a ship was governed by the ringing of bells, and thus Corum pays homage to this tradition through the deliberate use of materials and components to create resonance by the striking mechanism of the repeater. For this purpose Corum utilizes a titanium case in the Admiral’s Cup 45 Minute Repeater Tourbillon for both its resistance to corrosion and exceptional acoustic qualities. Ten of Corum’s finest watch making craftsmen spent approximately two years developing the mechanism to ensure accuracy of movement and tone emitted. The heart of the striking system, the minutes rack, is inverted compared to most repeaters and thus adds volume and the correct pitch Corum desired for their new wristwatch.A smoked sapphire crystal replaces the dial and highlights the watch’s intricate movement. And as with all Corum Admiral Cup models the 45mm case receives the recognizable 12-sided bezel in satin finish, which also includes an ingenious hidden winding function that allows it to wind the minute repeater as well.

Dewitt Academia Minute Repeater GMT Antipode
DeWitt’s latest high complication now offers the one thing that collectors desire as much in a watch as a quality complicated movement and an ingenious design: guaranteed exclusivity. The company will never manufacture more than a handful of examples of its DeWitt Academia Minute Repeater Tourbillon GMT Antipode for the simple reason that the specialty house that created the base movement has closed. Before the closure, however, specialist BNB Concept had begun to receive praise for the excellence and clarity of its tourbillon/minute repeater movement. DeWitt’s 45.5 mm timepiece also incorporates a GMT function, and this second time zone forms the basis for the watch’s double-sided design. In fact, the watch’s case and bracelet are almost as complicated as the movement. Gripping the watch by the case lugs (the assemblies to which the bracelet attaches), the owner can pivot the case to reveal the reverse side and a new time zone. The tourbillon is located on the side that displays the home time, which the minute repeater registers. The Grade 5 titanium case provides an excellent medium for propagating the repeater’s high-quality (and increasingly rare) sound.

Blancpain Carrousel Minute Repeater
Blancpain is the only Manufacture to have developed an entirely new minute repeater mechanism with cathedral chimes and to have combined it with a one-minute flying carrousel. Actuated by a repeating slide, this complication announces the time musically, using three different sounds. A low note is struck for each hour, then two notes, one high and one low, for each quarter-hour, and lastly a single high note for each minute elapsed since the last quarter-hour struck. The heart of this mechanism consists of two gongs struck by hammers and a complex mechanical memory.Designed to enable the user to tell the time in the dark, this charming function is still one of the best-loved complications, despite the development of other solutions, such as luminous hands and figures. This ingenious timepiece necessitates a complex movement capable of two parallel operations so that it can continue to perform its function of time-keeping while striking the hour. The materials are made in 18K rose gold and casketed very beautifully in a 45 mm case.

Christophe Claret Soprano Minute Repeater
Christophe Claret owes his passion for horology to his discovery of pocket-watches, which he used to repair and restore. Ever since, he has continued collecting these wonderful mechanisms from a bygone era, focusing his attention on minute repeaters with their highly distinctive structures. Charles X bridges particularly inspired Christophe Claret, who has given them a contemporary twist in this model. The Soprano watch associates two of the finest horological complications: a 60-second tourbillon and a minute repeater with Westminster chime, four patented cathedral gongs and four hammers, highlighted by stepped bridges inspired by the Charles X style. This exceptional calibre is housed inside a round case subtly marrying precious metals and titanium. Tradition and modernity are united in this creation, entirely in keeping with the demands of ultra high-end watchmaking developed by the Manufacture Claret. Westminster Chimes is a four-note tune chosen for the clock tower at the Palace of Westminster in London – a clock now more commonly known now as Big Ben, though the term originally referred to just the large hour bell. So well known did the four-note chimes become that they came to be called Westminster Chimes. The Soprano strikes these Westminster chimes on four cathedral gongs, each circling the perimeter of the movement twice (a normal gong goes around only once). To further enhance the richness of the sound, Claret used grade 5 titanium, a metal known for its superior acoustic properties and used in musical instruments, for the central case band. The round case (which is offered in either 5N rose gold/titanium or white gold/titanium) is 45 mm in diameter and water-resistant to 30 meters; both versions come with a back hand-sewn alligator strap with either black stitching (rose gold) or red or blue stitching (white gold). There will only be 16 of each Soprano model made, in two limited editions: eight in rose gold and eight in white gold.

Grönefeld GTM-06 Minute Repeater
The GTM-06 minute repeater differs from other repeater wristwatches in a number of details. There is an acoustic reason for the large case design (44mm x 15mm) as the generous case volume allows the gongs to develop a full and pure sound. The lugs, which also convey the full outlines of the case to the special galuchat strap, appear to be straight forward, on the contrary they are not. Using specially developed micro-machining techniques invisible from the exterior, the lugs are specially channeled in order to allow the resonance of the case not to be dampened by their mass. This is the result of much research and development as well as the vast wealth of experience that both Bart and Tim Gronefeld developed in the course of years of developing and listening to minute repeater mechanisms. The dial is at the top of the superbly finished movement - the calibre G-01 along with the modern styled chapter ring of black onyx which is adorned with highly polished hour indexes that catch the light at every angle providing a subtle and discreet view of the time. With a contemporary and masculine look, the GTM-06 Tourbillon Minute Repeater wristwatch is available in a strictly limited edition of 10 pieces in 18K 4N gold and 10 in 950 platinum.
Each year's new releases from Audemars Piguet reveal how dynamic the watch maker is. From ultra modern, to ultra subdued, there is no limit to how varied their timepieces can be. In stark contrast to some of the more bold offerings this year, the Audemars Piguet Tradition line - with its attractive 39.5mm wide cushion case - adds a new level of ' complication smoothness' to the classically-styled line. Greatest in this year's Audemars Piguet Tradition line is this Perpetual Calendar with Minute Repeater watch that is actually a very complex timepiece given the sheer number complications inside. The hand-wound Calibre AP 2855 movement powers the perpetual calendar with a moonphase. There is also the lever on the left side of the case for the gongs of the minute repeater. Pull it down, then active it, and you get a little harmony of gongs and bells that tell you the time if read (listened to) properly. The case is done in either 18k white gold or platinum, with a variety of finishes on the case. The sides are polished, while the bezel is brushed and the dial is satin finished. The cathedral style hands and hour markers are in rose gold. One of the best features is the font style of the number markers which looks classic at first, but has a unique modern flair if you observe them carefully.

An alliance of tradition and engineering for the ultimate Grande Sonnerie, the most complicated of its kind in the world for over 15 years. The latest evolution of the Arena Grande Sonnerie, the Arena Metasonic raises the exclusive work of Gérald Genta to the realm of perfection. Launched as a wristwatch in 1994 and regularly improved ever since, the noble proprietary complication that was already considered beyond compare further enhances its pedigree by appearing in a revolutionary new case. An original material and unprecedented construction combine to ensure an enchanting chime, embodying progress stemming from in-depth acoustic and vibratory research that simultaneously overturns certain preconceived ideas. The watch successively chimes the hours on a low-pitched gong, the quarters on two, three or four gongs, and the minutes on a high-pitched gong. The Grande Sonnerie models comprise approximately 850 parts for the hand-wound models, 950 for the self-winding versions, and 1,100 for those equipped with a perpetual calendar. It takes around a year’s work to craft just one such watch, and only 61 in all have emerged from the Gérald Genta workshops since 1994. The back enables one to admire the tourbillon and follow the evolution of the two separate power reserves – 48 hours for the movement, 24 hours for the striking mechanism. A security system locks the crown each time the watch is in the process of chiming, so as to avoid accidentally damaging the striking mechanism. Measuring 46 mm in diameter at the case middle and 50 mm overall, the Arena Metasonic features a combination of vertical-polished and horizontal satin-brushed surfaces. It is fitted with an ostrich leather strap.
