B.R.M. - The Official Timekeeper of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event has been around for almost ten decades. Since its inception in 1916, the event has grown leaps and bounds into becoming the second oldest motor sports race in the United States of America. Based in Colorado Springs, the course covers around 12 miles set in the Pikes Peak region, the journey begins on a steep point of 9,390 feet moving upwards to an astounding height of 14,000 feet. Running on tarmac and dirt, the event has seen an average of over 150 competitors participating from across America.
The race has been recognised by the FIA Board and holds races in all categories of cars, bikes and trucks as well. The Pikes Peak event is acclaimed to be the 'proving grounds' for developments in experimental automobile technologies. In its 91st event this year, the tournament will go to see muscles battling it out as participants challenge each other to becoming the King of the Mountain. The escalating heights although withhold's engines by 30 % due to the presence of thin air in the atmosphere.
Holding course record for 7 years, Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima has maintained his record of under ten minutes consistently. Although, in 2012 things did not go his way as his debutant electric power E- runner failed to make it through the course , as the engine gave way within the first few miles. Rhys Millen took advantage of the situation and drove to victory in his Hyundai Genesis Coupe beating his predecessor's record by 6 seconds.
Motor racing watch brand, Bernard Richard's Manufacture is the official timekeeper of the event. Designing and producing motor racing watches for the past 25 years now, B.R.M. as it is fondly known by its faithfuls plays the perfect sponsor and timekeeper. To honor the event, B.R.M. created a motor racing timepiece with an imprint of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Logo. The make of B.R.M. watches are standardised with their outstanding features such as its case, which is manufactured from 3m long bars of titanium. Driven by a automatic 7753 ETA Valjoux movement, bearing a case diameter of 46mm. The strap buckle consists of 12 components while more than 20 tracings are necessary for the accomplishment of the dial. The most significant feature of each B.R.M. watch is that the fitting, polishing, assembling and setting are performed by hand. The expected price is around USD 8,000.
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2013 begins this 24th June starting with the technical inspections involving the drivers' meeting. The event continues through with the Qualifying rounds and races up till the 30th of the month.
